Hello again from A.N.T.T.S = A North Texas Termite Specialist. Don’t let our name fool you! We have been dealing with every pest control problem for many years around the Dallas / Fort Worth area. If it’s ants, roaches, spiders, fleas, ticks or termites we have treated them with success. Today we would like to help the good people of the DFW area with upcoming fall rodent & roach prevention. You can do many things to exclude these pest from entering your home or business. The first and most important thing is a in depth inspection to identify your pest problem and how they may be accessing you home. Things to look for when walking the outside perimeter is any hole the size of a dime. Rodents and roaches among other pest can gain access through these openings. Most pipe and wire entries are a good place to start, these areas are usually sealed by the builder but after time the caulk drys and opens up. Look at your eves and around the roof flashing, these are other areas that over time through natural movement cracks and crevices appear. After you do a full inspection you need to determine your pest problem. We suggest you where rubber (latex) gloves for this part. You are no going to become a pest poop professional. Yes pest poop! The best way to determine a pest problem is sometimes through fecal identification. When dealing with rodents you want to know if you have rats or mice ? Roof Rats are most common in this area and there feces will be much larger than Field mice, the fecal matter will be about 1/2 inch long and pointed unlike the Norway rat which is much larger. If you are dealing with mice the droppings will be much smaller about 1/8 and smoothlogo_1.jpg with pointed ends. This is good to remember because American Roach droppings are about the same size but are more block like and have flat ends with striations down the sides. Once you identify which pest you are dealing with you can start your exclusion. with rodents you may also want to look for rub marks along the walls and pipes. these greasy trails are from their dirty hair rubbing on the path they take to get in. After you find all dime size holes you need to take a trip to your local hardware store and pick up some caulk, stainless steel wool, and some Ortho Boric Acid. In some cases you may need some chicken wire for large openings. Take these materials and caulk the smaller holes use a little of the boric acid first this will help with roaches and other insects. Then stuff the larger holes with the steel wool, again dust a little boric acid first. Any large gaps should be closed by any means possible. If you take these steps and be diligent in doing so you will have great success in stopping these pest before they get out of hand. If you try all this and still have a problem we are always available for service anywhere in the Dallas / Fort Worth area! Dallas / Fort Worth Pest & Termite Control Tips for Rodents, Roaches & Ants.

Posted in DYI Tips at 10:21 pm by Administrator

Hello again from A.N.T.T.S = A North Texas Termite Specialist Do not let our name fool you we have experience in every pest control problem out there. There is nothing we have not seen yet ? What we would like to talk about in this post is the potential pest problems found when doing home remodeling! Around this time every year when school starts and the holidays getting closer Dallas / Fort Worth homeowners start to do their fall renovations. This is when people open up walls, tear up shower tiles and expose areas that are not always accessible to them any other time of the year. This is also the best time to treat for these pest. Signs to look for while walls, tub & showers are open is chewed wires from rodents also rodent and roach droppings. With wood destroying insects you will see sawdust from carpenter ants, mud tubes and secretions from subterranean termites (most common in the DFW area ). When termites get under a shower pan and find their way to the studs around the shower stall this is a critical time to treat them and save from costly tile repair later. If termites hit under the shower pan and you are not in the middle of a remodel sometimes we have to either drill through the pan or have a tile guy come out and chip up the tile for us to access the pipe entry so we can treat. Doing this as a preventive measure is always in your best interest. When dealing with rodents and roaches with open walls is not as critical but is the best way to hit them where they live ensuring great results down the road. As they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! So next time the good people of Dallas & Fort Worth are doing your fall home renovations you may want to think about pest control while you have your walls and bathroom shower open! If you need to you can email us with A North Texas Termite Specialist, Dallas and Fort Worth Pest and Termite Controla photo for quick identification of you suspect pest. Dallas / Fort Worth Pest Control Tips For Ant, Spider & Roach Control

Posted in DYI Tips at 5:05 pm by Administrator

Hello again from . A.N.T.T.S = A North Texas Termite Specialist is here to give Dallas / Fort Worth residents some free advise on pest control tips for the ” Do it yourself ” people who want to control ants, roaches, spiders etc! There are many ole wife’s tales that are just plain funny and don’t kill bugs unless you smother the bug with the product itself. There are some though that hold water. The best one that gets misused is Boric Acid, it works great if you use it correctly. They way I see people use it is to line their cabinets with it and run a pile down the back of their counter top. This will not work because they will just avoid it and walk around it. The way Boric Acid works is it’s a stomach poison to them if they ingest it so you can create your own ant bait by mixing a little with some jelly and put it where you see them trailing. The best use for it is to dry out the insects exoskeleton by it being abrasive to them when they crawl over it and pick it up on their bodies. The only way to achieve this is to use it as sparingly as possible by just lightly puffing it into cracks and crevices where you see them going. This is where you need to think like a bug to kill a bug! If you see them going into a electrical outlet then you may want to puff a little there. If you see them going into the seam around your kitchen sink then put some there. Pipelines are a great travel route for most insects so always hit these. The biggest tip of the day is to hit them where they enter your home! Go outside and puff every little crack and pipe entry you have and if your home is a slab then you should have weepholes (those little slots in the brick) that need dusting with Boric Acid. Again if you think like a bug then you will have success in being pest free in the Dallas / Fort Worth Texas area.

Week one for our Dallas / Fort Worth Pest Control blog

Posted in termites at 1:46 am by Administrator

Well the week has started off pretty good! Looks like the economy may be getting a little better. I can tell you that last year A.N.T.T.S = A North Texas Termite Specialist was doing about twice as many real estate termite inspections (WDI VA & FHA Inspections) as we are now. It seems as though with the mortgage companies being so tough on lending now that nobody without perfect credit can by a home. When people buy a home most mortgage companies still require a WDI Termite report. We always recommend one even if the home is only 1-2 years old. I cannot begin to tell you how many times we find conducive conditions on new homes like form boards left in place, wood to ground contact etc. These conditions are a termite and pest problem waiting to happen. With a good inspection we educate the buyer about conducive conditions and how to inspect their own home as they are doing their landscaping and yard work. Another good thing about getting a termite inspection when purchasing a new home is that when we find active termites or carpenter ants it’s on the seller to take care of the problem before closing. A.N.T.T.S has come up with a great plan that works good for both the seller and buyer! With the great new termiticides we have around now like Termidor www.termidor.com we can do a spot treatment and warranty the whole home for a very reasonable price. This way the seller has the problem taken care of for the buyer and the mortgage company will lend the money for the sale. So if you are buying a new or used home around the Dallas or Fort Worth area and need a good inspection from a company with over 25 years experience and a owner who is the author of a Termite Visual Training Aid that sells nationwide to pest control companies to learn about doing a real estate termite inspection than you may want to call 817-366-3130 A.N.T.T.S
